Overview
CinemaGram is an independent project. This policy explains what information we collect when you use the website and the desktop app, how we use it, and the choices you have. We keep it short and plain on purpose.
What we collect
- Account details: your name and email address. If you sign up with a password, we store only a salted hash of it, never the password itself. If you sign in with Google, GitHub or Discord, we receive your name, email address and profile picture from that service.
- What you add: ratings, reviews and replies, lists, your watchlist and watch diary, who you follow, feedback messages, and an optional profile picture.
- Notifications: a record of the notifications we show you (for example, a new follower) so we can mark them read.
- Telegram: if you sign in with Telegram, we store your Telegram id, name and profile picture. If you message our Telegram bot, we remember your chat id so we can send occasional announcements; send /stop to the bot and we stop.
- Problem reports: if you use “Report a problem”, we keep your message, the page you were on and your browser type, and who you are if you were signed in.
- Technical data: our hosting provider receives your IP address and browser details when you load a page. We use Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights for aggregated, anonymous usage and performance statistics.
Cookies and local storage
We use a sign-in cookie that keeps you logged in; the site cannot work for signed-in members without it. Your browser also stores your language and theme choice, and a note that you closed the desktop-app card. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
How we use your information
- To run CinemaGram: sign you in, show your profile, ratings, lists and notifications.
- To email you verification codes when you create an account.
- To keep the community safe: preventing spam and abuse, and moderating content.
- To understand how the site performs and to fix problems.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not show advertising.
Who we share it with
We rely on a few service providers who handle data on our behalf:
- Vercel, for hosting, analytics and file storage.
- Neon, for our database.
- An email delivery provider, to send verification codes.
- Google, GitHub or Discord, only if you choose to sign in with them.
Film information comes from The Movie Database (TMDB). We do not send TMDB any personal information about you.
What other people can see
Your display name, profile picture, ratings, reviews, public lists and who you follow can be seen by other visitors. Your email address is never shown to other members.
Your choices
You can edit your profile and content, sign out, and clear your cookies at any time. To ask for a copy of your data or for your account and content to be deleted, contact us through the feedback page and we will take care of it.
Security
Connections to CinemaGram use HTTPS and passwords are stored as hashes. No online service is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.
Children
CinemaGram is not intended for children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, tell us through the feedback page and we will remove it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use CinemaGram after a change means you accept the updated policy.
